Quotations from David Gurteen:

A true Knowledge Café is not about group decision making or reaching a consensus or a documented proposal.

A true Knowledge Café is about individual learning, and insights; the surfacing of assumptions, issues, problems, and opportunities; seeing things that have not been seen before or seen only dimly.

David Gurteen, Knowledge Management Facilitator
CSI Communications June 2012

Knowledge is like a box of chocolates. Give one away and you don't have one chocolate less you have one friend more

David Gurteen, Knowledge Management Facilitator

If you are still alive you are doing well.

David Gurteen, Knowledge Management Facilitator

It is far easier to blame someone than to take the time to understand them.

David Gurteen, Knowledge Management Facilitator

We cannot change other people's behavior - only they can do that!

Threats, rewards and praise do not work.

We don't need to be told what to do. We just need to understand the world better and then we will see what needs to be done for ourselves.

How do we understand the world better? Through open conversation and dialogue!

David Gurteen, Knowledge Management Facilitator

Information is about who did what, where and when while knowledge is more about how and why.

David Gurteen, Knowledge Management Facilitator

If knowledge is the ability to act then knowledge management should be about improving our ability and propensity to act.

David Gurteen, Knowledge Management Facilitator

Knowledge workers are those people who have taken responsibility for their work lives . They continually strive to understand the world about them and modify their work practices and behaviors to better meet their personal and organizational objectives. No one tells them what to do. They do not take No for an answer. They are self motivated.

David Gurteen, Knowledge Management Facilitator

When competing, hoard your knowledge but when collaborating share it!

David Gurteen, Knowledge Management Facilitator

The limit to innovation in business is not technology, but managers obsolete viewpoints.

David Gurteen, Knowledge Management Facilitator

What you measure - you distort.

David Gurteen, Knowledge Management Facilitator

Just because you cannot measure something does not mean that it is not important.

David Gurteen, Knowledge Management Facilitator

Opportunities to do new exciting, rewarding things are all around us but if we don't look for them we don't see them and if we don't see them then its as if they never existed. They only come into being when we see them.

David Gurteen, Knowledge Management Facilitator

Quality is not just about doing things right - it is also about doing the right things.

David Gurteen, Knowledge Management Facilitator

The opposite of knowledge is not ignorance but believing that you know something when you do not.

David Gurteen, Knowledge Management Facilitator

Where there is understanding there is no blame.

David Gurteen, Knowledge Management Facilitator

You don't do KM! You respond to business problems and develop business opportunities using KM tools.
