There will be some light refreshments available. The Café itself will start prompt at 6:30pm. Theme: What knowledge, skills and/or capabilities should be prioritised for learners at universities in the 21st Century? The landscape of university education is changing rapidly. Learners at universities increasingly consider what value they are getting from their university experience as they pay for their education. Also, technological advances (e.g. Artificial Intelligence (AI)) continue to change the landscape of the working environment with the prospect of AI replacing skilled labour roles, fear of increased unemployment and social and economic division, more borderless organisations and rapidly changing skill requirements. Technological change also provides more opportunities to use social media and diverse technologies in higher education as part of the learning experience. So, within this complex dynamic landscape: what knowledge, skills and/or capabilities should be prioritised for learners at universities in the future? Speaker: Peter Sharp Peter studied History at Oxford University before qualifying as a commercial solicitor. Then, he did an MSc in Computing Science and a PhD in Knowledge Management in which he applied his ideas in industry. Since obtaining his PhD in 2003 he qualified with professional certificates in Teaching and Higher Education and Research Degree Supervision and has worked in the field of business management and professional skills at Regent's University London. Peter has always been interested in the crossover of skills from business to higher education and vice versa and he mentors/supervises learners through postgraduate work placement programmes and business projects. Peter has recently contributed a chapter to the book The University of the Future where this very topical subject for the Knowledge Café is discussed. Participants
