|
Date Wednesday 4th October, 2017, 6:00pm - 9:00pm. This is a free event. Please arrive at 6:00pm or shortly after, which will give you time to settle in and meet other people. There will be some light refreshments available. The cafe itself will start prompt at 6:30pm. The Theme In most knowledge-reliant organisations people naturally reach for knowledge and connection – the more they are aware of expertise and experience they can access, then the more they will collaborate and explore ideas to make the best use of others' knowledge. There are challenges in stimulating the ‘asking' behaviour but these are often dwarfed by the challenge of achieving a culture of sharing. Working out loud expresses an attitude and behaviour which helps people to be more comfortable with sharing without waiting to be asked. The Question What does ‘working out loud' look like in successful, collaborative, organisations? Speaker Faith Wainwright Faith is a Director of Arup, a firm which values freedom of thought and collaboration across disciplines and functions to deliver the best possible outcome to clients in the Built Environment. Faith's career has mainly been as a structural engineer, working with leading architects and multi-disciplinary teams. Benefitting from generous knowledge-sharing and mentoring in her early career, she has been passionate about the need to share technical expertise across project teams. Faith has driven the concept and strategy of Skills Networks at Arup - she was the first ‘global' skills network leader and today there are around 50 formally-appointed, vibrant communities of practice across all the firms' disciplines, and they are fundamental to how the firm delivers its projects to clients. Everyone in Arup is expected to participate in a Skills Network, and they are supported with experts in Knowledge Management, Research, Foresight, Learning and Information Management. These experts form Arup University, which Faith was instrumental in establishing in 2009. Faith has been widely recognised for her contribution to the built environment, receiving an MBE, an Honorary Doctorate from Bath University and Fellowship of the Royal Academy of Engineering. In 2018 she will be the President of the Institution of Structural Engineers. Sponsor: Arup Venue: Arup 13 Fitzroy Street London W1T 4BQ Directions & Map:
