Founded in 1908, HBS was initially conceived as a "delicate experiment" in the new field of professional management training. Harvard was the first university to require a college degree for admission to its business program.

Today, with a faculty of about 200, permanent staff of over 500, HBS offers a full-time Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) program, three doctoral programs, and over 30 executive education programs. Each year the MBA program graduates about 900 students, and 100 scholars are involved in the doctoral programs.

In addition, about 3,000 executives participate in management programs lasting from three days to ten weeks.

Video: Positive Deviance

A collection of videos on Positive Deviance.

Positive Deviance (PD) is an approach to behavioral and social change based on the observation that in every community there are individuals or groups of people (so called Positive Deviants) whose behaviours and strategies enable them to find better solutions to problems than their peers even though they have access to the same resources and face similar challenges.

In the international development and health sectors, PD has been used to address issues as diverse as childhood malnutrition, neo-natal mortality, girl trafficking, school drop-out, female genital mutilation (FGM), MRSA infections in hospitals and HIV/AIDS.
