World Values Day

This virtual Knowledge Café is being held as part of the run up to World Values Day (which is on 19th October 2017). The objective of World Values Day is to raise and deepen the awareness and practice of values all around the world.

World Values Day will provide an opportunity to think about our most deeply held values and to act on them. If we are aware to our values and put them into action each and every day, we can change our lives and change the world we live in.

See the World Values Day website www.worldvaluesday.com for information on events and activities taking place around the world as well as many useful tools and resources that can help in exploring our own values and those of our organisations and communities.

The Topic

Through the usual Knowledge Café process of dialogue and group discussion the following theme will be explored:

"Closing the gap between the values we see in the world around us, and the values we want to see"

This Knowledge Café will explore the gap between the values we aspire to and the values that in reality seem to rule the world around us. Is the problem other people having the wrong values, is it our failure to practice our own values, or maybe is it that we aren't seeing the world clearly enough?

For those not familiar with Zoom, instructions about using Zoom will be sent to all participants in good time, together with suggestions and information about how to get the best out of the virtual discussion.

This is a free event, open to anyone with an interest in the theme and a reasonably good internet connection anywhere around the world, but the number of guests at the café is restricted and you will need to book as promptly as you can if you wish to attend.

The Speakers: Charles Fowler and Alan Williams

Charles spent a few years practising as a Barrister before spending over 30 years in asset management, investment banking and private equity. He had a ring-side seat to watch the enormous cultural (and values) transformation of the City of London that followed the “Big Bang” globalisation of the financial sector in the 1980s, first as co- Chair of one of one of the City's oldest investment houses, John Govett & Co., and then heading up a small investment boutique. He currently chairs the Human Values Foundation, is a member of the Steering Group of the UK Values Alliance, and has been one of the main organisers behind World Values Day.

Alan is founder & MD of Servicebrand global. He coaches service sector organisations, internationally and in the UK, to deliver values-driven service for sustainable performance. He is a published author and speaker whose projects have delivered measurable business impact across a balanced scorecard and been recognised with industry awards. Alan graduated in Hotel & Catering Administration at Surrey University where he has been a visiting lecturer, was a global train the trainer for the Marriott International Spirit to Serve programme. He is a Past President of the Meetings Industry Association, a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality, a Board member of BQF, a Founder Faculty Member of Culture University, a Steering Group member of the UK Values Alliance and Founder of the newly forming Global Values Alliance.
