Facilitator: Ruth Rikowski Theme: What is the meaning of value? The importance of value in KM is now largely recognised, but little consideration is given to the meaning of ‘value’ itself. This session will ask participants to discuss what they think ‘value’ means – either in practical or theoretical terms, or both. Ruth will then lead a discussion about this and give her own understanding and analysis in regard to what she thinks ‘value’ means. This builds on her work in this area. In particular, she has an article in Policy Futures in Education, an online journal that is co-edited by Professor Michael Peters and Professor Walter Humes, entitled Value – the life blood of capitalism: knowledge is the current key. She has also recently completed a dissertation on the topic, through the University of Greenwich. Biography: Ruth Rikowski Ruth has been an information professional for some 25 years, and first became interested in KM four years ago. She has several published articles on KM, has taught KM at London South Bank University, and has given several talks on KM. She is currently a Visiting Lecturer at London South Bank University and the University of Greenwich and is the Series Editor for the Chandos Series for Information Professionals. She is currently writing her first book on Globalisation, Information and Libraries: the implications of the World Trade Organisation’s GATS and TRIPS Agreements.
