I am absolutely delighted that the National Library Board has kindly offered to host one of my Knowledge Cafes in Singapore on the evening of Tuesday 7th November. The event is free and runs from 6:00pm until about 8:30pm and drinks and light refreshments will be provided by the NLB.
Date: Tuesday 7th November 2006 6:00pm - 8:30pm. Please arrive at 6:00pm or shortly after which will give you time to settle in and meet other people. Drinks and light refreshments will be available. The cafe itself will start at 6:30pm. Host: The National Library Board, Singapore Location Address National Library Building 100, Victoria Street Singapore 188064 Directions: If you are attending KM Asia and coming from Suntec then the map below is the best I can find. It shows Suntec towards the central right hand side of the map. The NLB is on Victoria Street just a little north of the Bras Basah Complex at the very top center of the map. I am told it is a 15-20 mins walk from Suntec. The KM Asia seminars extend into the early evening and do not finish until 19:10. So if you are attending KM Asia I am afraid you will need to miss the last two sessions of the day to make it to the Knowledge Cafe in reasonable time. (I am sorry about this but did not realise until recently that the KM Asia sessions ran into the evening. Map: http://www.hoteltravel.com/singapore/singapore/city_hall_marina_map.htm Room: Possibility Room, Level 5 Theme: The Gurteen Knowledge Cafe This is the first time I have run a Gurteen Knowledge Cafe in Singapore and so I will start by explaining the history of the cafes; their purpose; their benefits and the process by which they are run. We will then move on to run a knowledge cafe on the theme of "What are the barriers to knowledge sharing and innovation within organizations and how do we overcome them? I have run 100s of knowledge cafes over the last few years and they are really great learning and networking events. Everyone engages with the theme of the cafe and some tremendous insightful, energetic conversations take place. If you can make it - please do come along. You will not be disappointed. Better still the cafe format is one that you can take back with you and use in your own organizations to help create a more innovative culture.
I would like to end by praising David Gurteen himself, both as an instructor and as an individual. In the months since our first acquaintance, I have gotten to know David quite well. As an instructor and conference facilitator his style is in the tradition of all the best teachers - thorough, stimulating and effective, with a delivery that is suited to any audience, regardless of background or experience. As an individual he is passionate about his work and the ideas that inform the discipline he works in. I found him to be patient, tolerant and open to new ideas and the opinions of others. It is these traits above all that make him perfectly suited to the work of teaching and consulting on the discipline of knowledge management. As such, I have no hesitation in recommending him to your conference or organization.
