Question: What does Gamification mean in a KM environment?

Communicators and marketers are increasingly using Gamification for engaging with staff and external stakeholders, so why should Knowledge Managers be different?

This Cafe will discuss this topic prompted by a presentation from one of the Gamification industries leading evangelists Andrzej Marczewski

Andrzej's excellent blog can be found here: http://www.gamified.co.uk

Questions hs is likely to pose:
  • Are you familiar with Gamification and what do you understand by gamification? Give a few definitions for the respondents to select from?
  • Have you used similar tools and techniques before and in what context?
  • What tools or techniques have you found most useful in driving through engagement / adoption?
  • What barriers did you encounter and how did you overcome them?
  • What surprised you?
  • If you were passing on a tip to somebody thinking of using these tools what would it be?

Speaker: Andrzej Marczewsk

Here's what Andrzej says about himself:

Hi. My name is Andrzej Marczewski. I have been a web developer since around 2000, a slight detour from my degree in Biomedical Science! I have worked in most areas of web design, from public sector, to small businesses to large enterprises. Currently I am Internal Web Manager for Capgemini UK.

My true passion has always been gaming – and guitar, but gaming mostly! I was introduced to video games very young as my Dad was a fan (with is Apple II and our Acetronic MTU 1000!). This eventually lead me to starting Yet Another Review Site as a way to talk about games, review them and encourage others to do the same.

In about 2011, this passion lead to me discovering Gamification and becoming fascinated with the possibilities it had. Merging my love of games and developer mind with my business and enterprise background, it was the perfect fit. Since then I have written about gamification every week on this blog, written Gamification: A Simple Introduction and done talks in the UK and abroad.

I feel privileged to now be considered as a gamification thought leader and expert.
