Host: Alma Kucera, HMRC Venue: HM Treasury 1 Horse Guards Road London SW1A 2HQ Directions: Directions to the Treasury Building. Please report to the reception. Theme: Human will and human won’t: what can we do to help people who don’t use systems and resources developed for their benefit? In an economic downturn, it becomes even more important for organizations to make effective use of their people. But even the best KM infrastructure is only as good as the use people make of it. This is the crucial intervening variable between the investment in technology which the organization has made, and the real return which the organization seeks. In this Knowledge Cafe, we will explore how to overcome this problem and some practical ways forward and Kate will talk about "Landscape of the Mind", a fresh approach which can throw light on “human will and human won’t”. Speaker: Kate Hopkinson Kate is director of Inner Skills, a consultancy she set up in 1995. She uses an innovative methodology she has developed, called Landscape of the Mind. As well as 30 years experience in management and organization development, Kate has been CEO of a not-for-profit organization, and served for 6 years on the board of Saferworld, an NGO concerned with international security issues. She is a designated expert in cognitive sciences for the European Commission, and has been a formal reviewer for EU projects. As well as writing articles and papers, she contributed to the best selling “The Personal Management Handbook”. She has been attached to the Complexity Research Programme at the London School of Economics since 2000, and worked on the ICoSS project, with Rolls-Royce Marine, Norwich Union, Shell, BT and The Modernization Agency of the NHS.
