KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT ASIA 2002 Asia's premier Knowledge Management Event 16-18 July 2002 Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre, Singapore
Knowledge Management Asia 2002 closed on 18 July 2002 having welcomed hundreds of knowledge management industry members through its doors. The exhibition and conference brought together Asia's leading KM thinkers to analyse, debate and discuss the latest developments in this fast-moving field. If you weren't able to attend, read on to find out what you missed.
Final attendance figures from the three-day event: Ark Group Asia, the leading strategic management and new media publishing and events company, wishes to thank every visitor, exhibitor and delegate for supporting KM Asia 2002, the unprecedented knowledge management conference and exhibition in Asia. A recap of some of the overriding themes and points of interest raised at KM Asia 2002: ** KM Practioners took the stage in the two-day conference with Bob Buckman presenting the first keynote speech of the show. Case-studies maintained the practical theme inbetween the keynotes. Chair Person, Melissa Risteff, Global Knowledge Engineering, Enterprise Services Division, Sun Microsystems Inc., made some interesting comments from the two-day conference. She identified three main areas that KM Practitioners recognise in today's knowledge organisation:
1. Market Indicators for the Practitioner
2. The Practitioner's To Do List
3. The Practitioner's Approach ** Some memorable quotes from Keynote Speakers at KM Asia 2002 Bob Buckman, Chairman, Buckman Laboratories, USA 'We spend too much time do unnecessary things in order to work!' Paul Hearn, KM Research Team, European Commission 'What began as a vision and developed into a portal, is now becoming a community' - The Knowledge Board, European KM Community Karl Wiig, Chairman, Knowledge Research Institute Inc. 'Description versus Knowledge - Knowledge is action' Jeanne Holme, Chief Knowledge Architect, NASA, USA Government 'Forming global teams and driving them; to then capture the experiences and knowledge for the future is not easy - but helping the next generation is essential' Hideo Yamazaki, Senior Researcher, Nomura Research Institute Ltd, Japan 'Treasure and nurture open individualism and community' ** Conference Theatre 2, The Complimentary Presentation Theatre Over two days, CEOs and Senior management represented their globally recognised companies with leading KM products and services to an audience reaching 100 people in this highly successful free conference theatre. Attendees hung back to ask questions and seek business cards for future conversations with the presenters. 'The room filled up to almost full by the time I had finished speaking,' remarked Dr Suliman Hawamdeh, President of IKMS, 'I didn't expect such an attentive audience at the end of the day!'
KM Asia 2002 continually demonstrates that the KM market in Asia is more
mature than previously recognised. If you weren't able to attend this year's
event then make sure next year's exhibition is noted in your diary.
