Date: Wednesday 21st February 2007 6:00pm - 8:30pm. Please arrive at 6:00pm or shortly after which will give you time to settle in and meet other people. Refreshments will be available. The cafe itself will start at 6:30pm. For those interested we normally go for a drink at a local pub after the event. Theme: The Social Tools Debate On the Wednesday and the Thursday 21st and 22nd February, I am chairing a conference titled Social Tools for Business Use: Web 2.0 and the new participatory culture We are hoping that some of the participants and speakers at the conference will stay for the knowledge cafe and UNICOM also plan to invite some of their clients so we should have a good turn out. Most of you have a good idea of what social tools and Web 2.0 are all about - we are talking: weblogs, RSS feeds, wikis, instant messaging, social networking platforms, social tagging, personal photos, video and more besides. Tools that fundamentally allow people to find each other, connect and to communicate. If you are not familiar with these new products and technologies - shame on you :-) but see here for a few short video interviews Anyway I thought I'd do something a little different for this knowledge cafe. These tools are starting to move from the web into organizations and have been dubbed "Enterprise 2.0". Its not clear yet just what sort of impact this will have and so I have asked two people to start the evening with a 'debate' - each speaker will have ten minutes to talk. The motion is : "Social Tools and Web 2.0 are a lot of hype and will have little impact within organizations".One person will energetically put the case for this motion and the other will totally disagree. We will then go into the normal knowledge cafe conversation process but finally end the evening by taking a vote. Now - a twist - unlike normal debates where people are encouraged to take entrenched positions and diss the opposition - I would like people to take a position but have an open mind and be prepared to change their view as the discussion unfolds - so the conversation at the tables is closer to one of dialogue than debate. The two speakers will be Jon Thorn of Team Performance Host: Julie Valentine Host Organization: Unicom Seminars Location Address Thistle City Barbican Central Street Clerkenwell East London EC1V 8DS Map & Directions: Google Map
