The Swedish Library Association and the National Committee are happy to welcome you to the World Library and Information Congress, in Göteborg 2010: the 76th IFLA General Conference and Assembly.

It is a challenge for our library community in Sweden and Scandinavia, not only to welcome you to the 2010 World Library and Information Congress, but also to surprise you and overwhelm you and make your journey worthwhile, especially for those of you from the southern part of the world coming up north, and from the east going west.

Twenty years have passed since the conference was in Sweden, in our beautiful capital Stockholm. Now you will have the opportunity to discover exciting Göteborg on the west coast of Sweden - just two hours by air from the major hub airports of London, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Vienna!

You will find the conference venue in the centre of Göteborg and within walking distance to most of the conference hotels, a great selection of cultural institutions and many different libraries.

The challenges and the big issues of the changing world of information and libraries are global, but the answers and ways of approaching them differ. That’s what makes the international cooperation and exchange of experiences so valuable.

The international library community will make this congress truly professional through the hard work of IFLA’s sections and units, with members from all over the world. We, in the Swedish library community, will add our perspective and engagement, our ‘Nordic Light’. And the librarians of Göteborg will give you the salty social spirit of our west coast.

The whole library community of Sweden will join together to make sure all of you are able to find something for your special interest.

The Swedish Library Association and the National Committee are both proud and humble to welcome you to Göteborg. It will be thrilling work through the coming next twelve months and we will do our very best to make your visit to the World Library and Information Congress 2010 and to Göteborg truly memorable. Come and see for yourself!
