Once again the Centre for Informatics Knowledge Management and Knowledge Economy (SANCIKMKE) is calling for papers to its biannual International Conference on Knowledge Economy (icke2011). This time around, SANCIKMKE is joined by the Province of the Eastern Cape, South African Knowledge Management Professional Association (SAKMPA) and Informatics and Knowledge Management Academy (IKMAC) in organizing the conference. The conference is geared towards exploring the possibilities of leveraging knowledge in order to grow economy in poorly resourced areas of the world. Therefore, the theme of the conference is about “Leveraging Knowledge to Grow Economy of Under Resourced Areas” This topic seems relevant after considering the deliberations of icke2009 which was held in 2009. In this previous conference it was clearly articulated by speakers that in the 21st Century knowledge is the key driver in growing economy in the world. This conference seeks to find ways on how knowledge can be leveraged to grow economy in under resourced areas. Knowledge unlike natural resources is a resource that is available everywhere in the world. Information and Communication Technologies facilitate access to knowledge in an unprecedented way. Therefore, what is needed is finding techniques, mechanisms and methods on how to turn knowledge into wealth for countries and especially the under resourced areas.
All government leaders, politicians, academics, civil society and business institutions are invited to come and deliberate on what can be done to leverage knowledge in the process of creating wealth and improving economic growth in under resourced areas. Papers on scientific work, government projects, policies, business practices, examples and experiences are very critical in providing knowledge, mechanisms and techniques which are needed in the process of leveraging knowledge for economic development. Knowledge Management and Innovation have been identified as key in facilitating economic growth. These are important topics of the conference as outlined further down this call for papers
