This two day course will be presented by the Henley Forum on the 20th and 21st July 2016 at the Greenlands site of Henley Business School.

Effective knowledge management improves individual and organisational performance by creating channels for knowledge to flow across organisational boundaries.

Who should attend?

Those who are responsible for identifying, designing and/or implementing initiatives that will improve the knowledge and organisational learning processes and practices of the organisation.

For example,

  • New and experienced knowledge managers.
  • Knowledge advocates / community leads with substantial KM / OL responsibilities within their role.
  • Managers and leaders responsible for shaping the direction of knowledge and learning activities in their organisation.

What we’ll cover on the course

By the end of the course, participants will improve their ability to critically evaluate suitable systems, processes, technologies, leadership and behavioural change approaches to develop an organisation’s knowledge and learning capability.

Insights from Forum research projects undertaken over the past 15 years with public and private sector organisations will be used extensively within the course.

  • Developing a learning organisation by joining up learning activities across the organisation.
  • Developing a strategic approach to delivering value from knowledge: mapping knowledge flows and the impact of core knowledge tensions.
  • Trends and influences on knowledge and learning in organisations.
  • Tailoring knowledge and organisational learning approaches to the needs of different organisations and groups.
  • Engaging people in knowledge and learning activities and managing change.
  • Knowledge ambidexterity – getting the most from existing knowledge at the same time as promoting new thinking and innovation.
  • Building the case for change in your organisation.

Everyone attending the course will be encouraged to apply what they have learned to a project in their workplace. These can be individual projects, or you can coordinate the activity with other attendees from your organisation.

    Dr Christine van Winkelen is an Academic Fellow at Henley Business School. She has worked with the Henley Forum since its inception in 2000, leading research activities and organising events and member activities. She teaches knowledge management on the Henley MBA programmes and has published extensively in academic and practitioner journals. She regularly speaks at KM conferences in the UK and overseas.
