ebic 2008 is the key networking event for people working in the knowledge and information arena. The interactive style and social programme provide a unique opportunity for a maximum of 140 delegates to renew and sustain their network of peers and colleagues and to make new business contacts. A platform on the ebic web site will help delegates to connect with each other before and following the conference.
ebic 2008 is attended by KIM leaders from many countries and a wide range of sectors and disciplines. It is the place where they look for innovative ideas, exchange practical experience, and make plans for the future. It is the event where senior executives from the user community and key suppliers discuss the evolving information and knowledge market place.
ebic 2008 is designed to be thought provoking. Our speakers and facilitators are selected for their knowledge and their ability to stimulate lively discussion. Delegates will be participating in a major thought leadership event but will also come away with practical and actionable ideas.
Connecting with the future
Berlin is the venue for the 17th ebic conference. Between 1-3 October 2008 outstanding speakers and facilitators will work with knowledge and information management (KIM) leaders and influencers to explore the trends and drivers that are determining the future of our organisations, market places and societies. They will 'imagine' how the KIM community can play a significant and positive role in this future. The theme of the conference is 'Connecting with the future' and the underlying focus is innovation. The conference Chair is Peter Chivers, formerly CKO of KPMG in the UK.
The keynote speaker, Paul Saffo, is an internationally acclaimed futurologist from the Institute of the Future and Consulting Associate Professor, Stanford University. The themes he presents in 'Untangling the Future' will be picked up and explored by Bill Parsons, Executive VP, Human Resources, ARM Holdings, Ewan McIntosh from Learning & Teaching Scotland and Darren Collins from Hitachi Data Systems. Alun Davies, Director of Knowledge Management at Lovells will complete the first day by demonstrating how KIM can have a positive impact on the goals of an organisation.
The second day features four KIM leaders who have developed innovative KIM strategies for their organisations. They will reflect on their planning, their successes, what they may have done differently and what they would like to do in the future. The presenters, Elisabeth Mangold, Director of Business Intelligence at the Dow Chemical Company; Tony Sheehan, Learning Services Director, Ashridge Business School, Formerly Chief Knowledge Office, Arup; Di Martin, Dean and Chief Information Officer, University of Hertfordshire; and Jessica Frankel, Director, Library and Information Services (LIS) at Credit Suisse will then join the delegates in an interactive scenario planning session.
On the final day, Jeremy Bentley of Smartlogic, Alan Scott of Dow Jones and Lynne Collier of Hitatchi Data Systems will review future business models for the information industry. Julian Birkinshaw of London Business School will then invite us all to re-invent management. Julian is a Professor in the Department of Strategic and International Management at the London Business School, and Deputy Dean of Programmes.
