I'm really interested in how things work and how they often don’t. I spent my early professional life in the world of Information Technology in search of the Grail of white-collar effectiveness. In the early 90’s I introduced to the UK suites of exotic software commissioned at enormous cost and effort by all the usual suspects of heavy hitters in the world of management development. Created at the acknowledged world center of expertise in group collaboration and decision support in Arizona USA, these management applications came with testimonials from some of the best practitioners of personnel science - the IBM's, Boeing's, US Navy and so on. After personal training from the professor in charge of the University faculty developers of the systems, and professionals from the commercial exploiters, I facilitated this impressive technology in custom-built post modernist and vernacular facilities at home and abroad. Many including me were fascinated, well actually probably a bit blinded, by the apparent potential. With my LAN-in-a-van network of laptop computers, I worked with Central and Local Government, The Military, the Police, International Corporations, Professional Bodies, Industry bodies, Business Schools and Universities, schools, private businesses, major Consultancy Firms, Law Firms, the disabled, the list goes on and on, inventing the future with the best of them. But you know, hey, sometimes you realize things are as they are for very good reasons, and all they need is some sense applied to them. Maybe we should pay a little more attention to stuff we were already doing as a way of making things better. Perhaps we need a little jolt from a blinding flash of the obvious to ease our way forward.
