She has a particular interest in the development of professionals and in particular doctors as managers. Her research focus is on the organisation of health care in both a UK and international context. Her current research is into Managing Demand and the effects of NHS Direct. She is also developing work on emotion in the management of healthcare organisation, and set up in 1998 the biennial conference Organisational Behaviour in Healthcare.
