Assessing the commercial viability of Cloud Computing to your organisation: Opportunities and cost savings, implications, legal liability, security threats and risks
Cloud Computing is on the horizon and fast approaching, and on the surface, there seem to be a dizzying number of tangible benefits of moving processes into the Cloud… increased scalability, faster deployment times, simpler data centre, massive cost reductions, improved IT flexibility, reduced Bandwidth, cheaper Storage and drastic decreases in processing costs.
IT departments are under enormous pressure to balance service delivery and cost, and the out-of-control costs, including personnel, hardware, licences, space and storage are an increasing burden for organisations of all sizes. It is little wonder therefore that Cloud Computing is such an enticing proposition. However, there are clear risks inherent in using the internet as part of your IT strategy and it is this risk factor that will potentially put the brakes on full scale IT deployment into the cloud. The bottom-line is quite simple - how much control are organisations are willing to relinquish to reap the rewards promised by cloud computing?
It is imperative that you start developing a sense of Cloud Computing – do the research, assess the risks and pinpoint the potential services within your organisation that can be cloud enabled.
