Government agencies, particularly those with large service provisions and extensive employee bases have a staggering amount of knowledge capital at their disposal. They also have an added responsibility that this knowledge must be managed effectively to provide vital services at local, federal and state government levels as well as the private sector.

However, public sector knowledge practitioners have to manage this vast amount of knowledge on limited resources and within the constraints of legislation resulting in much of this knowledge being underutilised or lost. In order to harness this valuable resource and remain relevant, they are required to create and sustain a robust knowledge culture.

Using a range of enablers designed to capture, store and transmit information, the challenge is to enlist all stakeholders, management, employees and customers in creating this culture while harnessing the knowledge that each of these groups possess.

This two-day conference will look at ways in which government departments can improve the knowledge capabilities of their departments or agencies through the analysis of issues such as:

Addressing and expanding knowledge capacity and capability

Recognising technology as a conduit to improved knowledge and greater participation

Exploiting opportunities created by change and creating enthusiasm and commitment through support structures

Demonstrating the value of an intangible product
