Just as with ancient cultures like the Australian Aboriginal, the passing of knowledge is by language, song and ceremony, and involves a 'tapestry of obligations' across all communities.
The key word is 'obligation' and of course this links to the concept of passing on knowledge:
in life
to other generations
in our work environments
in our families and so on
