Theme: What is the obligation for individuals and communities to entrust cultural knowledge for the future?

Just as with ancient cultures like the Australian Aboriginal, the passing of knowledge is by language, song and ceremony, and involves a 'tapestry of obligations' across all communities.

The key word is 'obligation' and of course this links to the concept of passing on knowledge -
  • in life
  • to other generations
  • in our work environments
  • in our families and so on
Facilitator: : Helen Paige
Helen Paige is a specialist on what she calls the 'human' side of knowledge management. This is the culture and leadership required in organisations - small and large - to allow KM to 'work'.

Helen works independently with a range of organisations and businesses to implement 'applied' KM.

Helen has written several KM articles and speaks regularly. Her most recent talks were in Leiden and Amsterdam in The Netherlands on knowledge management and globalisation and knowledge management and creativity.

Helen set up a KM Forum in Adelaide, South Australia a couple of years ago as a community of practice. Helen has gathered a team of 'like-minded KM individuals' around her - and in 2006 will implement practical KM business solutions into professional services organisations such as lawyers, architects, accountants, engineers and so on.

Helen is the regional director for the Gurteen Knowledge Cafe in Adelaide, Australia.
