For each course there were several questions about ourselves we could chose to discuss. We were instructed to only talk with our partners. The questions were intended to help us discover what sort of person we were talking with, their ideas on different aspects of life, such as ambition, curiosity, fear, friendship and the relations of the sexes. My conversation partner was a young American woman, working in London whom I had never met before. We had a fascinating conversation - talking far more deeply about ourselves and life then we would ever do in normal circumstances. Why? Well I guess, in a strange way, Theodore had given us permission and also the intimate questions which made it easy to talk. I enjoyed the experience so much I wondered how I might incorporate one-to-one conversation into a knowledge cafe rather than the small groups as at present. So at this knowledge cafe I plan to experiment a little :-) Rather than the normal format, I will pair you off with each other and give you a short list of questions from which you can choose - to discuss. They won't be Theodore's questions but I will design them to be open-ended and to give you the opportunity to reveal as much of your inner-self to your partner as you feel comfortable. We will then come back together in the traditional way to hold a large group conversation and share the experiences of our "intimate" conversations and discover what we have learnt. I hope this does not sound too scary to you! Are you game?
